Scholarship description

Haitians have a long history and significant presence in the United States, yet they remain underrepresented in many fields. To boost the representation of Haitian Americans in post-secondary schools and public service, it is critical that Haitian Americans have the resources they need.

The NHAEON Emergent Leaders Scholarship seeks to support any students of Haitian descent who display motivation, sincerity, strong leadership skills, and dedication to community service. Students committed to building a better community through personal leadership activities while enrolled in college, university, or vocational programs are encouraged to apply.

Three awards will be distributed, one recipient per level of schooling indicated below.

1. Graduate Student $2,000

2. College or University Student $2,000

3. Vocational Student $1,000

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Experience: Must be a leader and a volunteer in their community.

2. Ethnicity: Must be of Haitian Descent.

3. Education Level: Must be a (junior or senior) college student.

4. Legal Status: US citizenship or legal permanent resident of the United States.

Judging is based on the fulfillment of requirements, financial needs, and academic achievement. A rubric will be used to score applicants. If there is a tie, the winner will be selected randomly from tied applicants. Please do not submit .txt files with your application.

Please Note: The Recipients are expected to commit at least 2 hours of community service at NHAEON per month during the school year (20 hours per semester) and 40 hours in the summer. A stipend will be available.
